German and European Patent Attorney

Science and technology are the driving forces of our technological and social development. The protection of technical innovations requires technical and scientific knowledge, in order to be able to understand an invention and to describe it correctly, as well as legal knowledge, to be able to achieve a broad scope of protection in efficient procedures. As patent attorney I enjoy working at the interface between technology and law.

As German Patent Attorney, I am admitted to the German Patent and Trademark Office, to the German Federal Patent Court and in nullity proceedings before the German Federal Court of Justice. As a European Patent Attorney, I am admitted to the European Patent Office. I am further admitted to the European Union Intellectual Property Office to represent clients with respect to European Union trademarks and designs.

  • studies in physics at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen
  • research at the University of California in Santa Barbara (1989-90)
  • member of the Institute for Intellectual Property Law of the Humboldt University Berlin (1998-2001)
  • doctoral degree (Dr. iur.) at the Humboldt University Berlin (2000)
  • patent attorney since 1995, partner at Maikowski & Ninnemann, Berlin, from 1996 to 2015
  • foundation of own patent law firm in 2015

Activities:

  • German, European and international patent applications (in particular mechanics, telecommunications, automotive engineering, audio technologies, jet engine technologies, optics, semiconductor technology und software inventions)
  • national and international trademark law
  • national and international design law
  • litigation of patents, utility models and trademarks
  • preparation of license and cooperation agreements
  • counseling on the German law on employee’s inventions

Engagement:

  • member of the Board of the Chamber of German Patent Attorneys (Patentanwaltskammer)
  • member of the examining commission for the admission of German patent attorneys
  • lecturer at the law faculty of the Humboldt-Universität Berlin (since 2009)
